Born & bred in Threlkeld into a family hefted in the service industry; whilst growing up my parents ran the village shop then took over the Horse & Farrier. Couldn’t have been a better grounding for a life in retail!
After leaving Cumbria for University I stayed away for 11 years (working in retail) before returning in 1990 to join Michael & Anita Standring deliver the vision they had for George Fisher Ltd.
At George Fisher I have been Sales Manager, Buyer, Buying Director and, on the retirement of Michael & Anita in 2007, I took over the hot seat in the ivory tower with overall responsibility of the entire business.
When at work the place I enjoy most is on the shopfloor where I have the opportunity to talk to people about their up-coming adventures; unfortunately I don’t get to do this as often as I would like because there’s always more than enough on my plate back at my desk.
Outside of work I spend as much time as possible outdoors with friends & family – walking, fell running (very slowly), mountain marathons, cycling, skiing…sometimes it’s hard to see where work ends and life begins! That said, you may have seen me watching test cricket at grounds around the country, reading the odd book whilst on summer holidays or supporting Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
If you see me on the shopfloor (or on the hill for that matter) definitely say hello – it’s always interesting to find out what brings people to Keswick and what you think of our store.
