A few years back, George Fisher started giving some sponsorship assistance to Francesca Lee, a very keen young Keswick-based ski racer with big ambitions. We’ve followed Francesca’s career with interest, and she recently updated us on progress so far for this winter.

“I have had a really busy couple of months travelling around a lot, to get in some training and racing. It started off at Castleford Snow Dome for the last weekend of the GBR indoor series races, which is the main circuit of indoor ski racing for the UK. The races went well and I won both days overall, which meant that I took the Overall Indoor series title as well as the U21 title.

“From the races, I headed out to Cervinia, Italy, where I had a three-week block on the Zermatt glacier training with The British Ski Academy (sponsored by Artemis). The days we were able to go skiing (only eight out of 18, due to bad weather) were awesome, and I was working on the transition phase between turns, mainly in my freeskiing (not in gates). After this camp I headed to the west coast of France for a week of catching waves (surfing) and running along beaches, before I flew back to Zermatt for three days filming the Kickstarter campaign for a new goggle coming out from Summit Worldwide. Afterwards, I had a week visiting family and work in the gym, before it was time to head back on skis at Norwich dry ski slope for BSA's Norwich summer camp, leading up to the All England dry slope championships and team event.

“It was my first time racing back on plastic in about three years, and I was really happy to finish second overall and first U21. In the team event our team (the British Ski Academy) won. Then it was off to Stelvio, Italy for a week of quality training mainly based in gates and I can feel the time I spent working on my technique out of gates is really helping.

“I was able to use my new slalom skis in Zermatt and Stelvio, and I loved them, thank you for getting them sorted. Heading back to the Alps for three weeks of pre-season training next, and I can't wait for the season to start after that!

“Currently my FIS (International Ski Federation) points for slalom are second lowest of the British female racers in my year of birth, and I am working hard on my other disciplines too. I have a new blog up, so if you want to read about my summer in more detail, you can here: francescaleeski.weebly.com/blog
