We asked Caroline Travis from Amy’s Care to tell us a little about themselves; “Amy’s Care is a family-run Community Interest Company based in North Cumbria on the edge of the Lake District National Park. It was inspired by, and named after, founder Fraser Dooley’s grandma Amy.

We specialise in providing day care through social clubs for older adults and, in particular, for those living with dementia. We believe in providing a stimulating and engaging environment that promotes inclusion, leading to a fulfilled life.

“Every day at Amy’s we help people maintain social skills, nurture friendships and enjoy conversation. We believe that getting out and about in the local community, and access to social events, is important in order to engage and still feel part of society. Often we can be found looking at art, listening to poetry and drama, playing music, dancing, singing and reminiscing about life. Amy’s provides a good nutritious meal and we encourage people to enjoy suitable physical and mental exercise, including getting out in the fresh air. We usually find ourselves having tea and cake out and about! “Of course, we strive to offer our members a variety of outings, activities and events to attend and take part in and this means having adequate transport.

We are currently looking to update our minibus to cater for all our members’ requirements

One of our founder members, Rebecca Dooley, has committed to a personal challenge in order to raise money for a new minibus. Rebecca is climbing Binsey (1,467ft) every day in 2018 - yes, that’s 365 times! She is currently over halfway through. To date, she has climbed the equivalent of Everest four times andtraversed 320 miles over 92 hours, in all the weather conditions that we are so used to here in the Lake District. You can see all her photos and follow her epic journey at binsey365.wordpress.com”As Rebecca says on the blog, you can use it "As a daily weather forecast, to have a good laugh (see day 24) or to watch the seasons go by!"
