Coffee Inspiration

Carvetii Coffee was born in 2011 firstly out of a desire for founders, Gareth Kemble and Angharad MacDonald to live among the fells and ridges of the Lake District, and secondly a deep thirst to change the coffee scene in Cumbria for the better. In those early days of moving to Cumbria from their native North Wales, Gareth and Angharad missed fresh coffee so much that they used to roast green beans on a frying pan to get their fix.

To most people that might seem like a lot of hard work for a cup of coffee, but seven years on, it’s still that attention to detail and passion for producing the best quality coffee that makes Carvetii stand out. Voted Cumbria’s Best Drinks Producer at the 2018 Cumbria Life Food & Drink Awards, Gareth and Angharad are constantly pushing their roasting to new heights and are well-respected among the UK’s coffee aficionados. In fact, we’re in good company at Abraham’s Café as their coffee is being used by the best in the industry to train professionals at all levels at London’s School of Coffee.

Carvetii’s continued ascent has seen them twice outgrow their premises in the last 18 months, and their new roastery - just down the road in Threlkeld - sits in the shadow of Blencathra. From there, they not only roast delicious coffee but also offer first-class barista training and are always on hand to provide support if we need it.

Like us at George Fisher, Gareth and Angharad feel the presence of the fells each and every time they travel to work. But thanks to them, we’ve now learned that coffee changes with the seasons. So as we wave goodbye to autumn and our Central American coffees, the first sprinkling of snow on the summits will mark the arrival of new-season Rwandan coffee.
