Offset your trek!

West Cumbria Rivers Trust

Some of our events on during our Boot Up Your Weekend event are in support of the West Cumbria Rivers Trust 'Offset Your Trek' campaign. Travelling often generates large amounts of carbon which contributes to higher levels of greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere. The West Cumbria Rivers Trust are asking people visiting the Lake District to act positively and responsibly to reduce their carbon emissions and support a more sustainable environment by planting trees with West Cumbria Rivers Trust. By pledging £5 (or more!) we will plant 5 trees to offset your carbon footprint and leave a legacy for future generations.

You may be wondering what are the benefits to planting trees along our rivers and lakes?

  • Creates riparian habitat (plant habitats and communities along the river margins and banks are called riparian vegetation);
  • Provides bank stabilisation to reduce erosion and in turn reduces damaging sediment input into our rivers and lakes;
  • Provides shading to keep our rivers cool and in turn protect species from a rising temperatures due to global warming;
  • Helps reduce flooding by the take up of water and slowing down run-off;
  • Planting native tree species will support our natural ecosystems, biodiversity and wildlife and creates a wildlife corridor along our watercourses and improves wildlife networks; and
  • Establishes new woodlands for generations of people to enjoy now and in the future.

We payed a special visit to the Rivers trust building to speak to them about about all of the projects they have on at the moment. If you're interested in Litter picks, frog rescue, special film screenings plus more, check out their website westcumbriariverstrust.org for more...

We are very excited to be working alongside the West Cumberland Rivers rust and supporting them in all that they do. This summer we will continue to share their progress and any future events we work together on. To get tickets and find more informoation on our boot Up Your Weekend event click HERE.
