I am the Equipment and Accessory Buyer here at George Fisher. Though I am originally from down South (Buckinghamshire), I moved North to attend Lancaster University in 2002. At Uni I spent much of my time walking, climbing and cycling and once I graduated I was loathed to give this up. The ability to achieve in a single evening, what would otherwise have taken a whole weekend, ensured that I stayed in the frozen North!
My job means I spend most of my time pouring over spread sheets and creating orders, but occasionally they let me out on to the shop floor to speak to real people. Interacting with customers means I get to hear about inspiring adventures on an almost daily basis. At heart I am a passionate gear geek, and researching products (read that as playing with toys) is something I relish about the job.
On the hill I am sometimes walking, sometimes climbing, but often fell running (I’m slow, so it’s more like fell walking in shorts). I am also a member of Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team which keeps me busy when I would otherwise be wasting my time by sleeping! I have recently discovered CrossFit which is a great way of keeping fit when I don’t have the opportunity to get out on the fell.
Being part of a team of lovely people, and getting to work for a company which has an integral part in the history of the Lake District and British Mountaineering is a real privilege.

A correctly fitting rucksack can make the difference between being weighed down like a pack animal, and having a comfortable day out. If you come into the shop one of our members of staff can give you a rucksack fitting service but here is a bit of information for you to think about before you come in.
