Today’s Fisher’s Favourite is Debbie Martin.

Debbie started running in 2002 to train for a local women’s 10K run. By 2004, she had ran her first marathon, and 3 years later her first ultra distance event.

Debbie has represented Scotland and Great Britain in 100K and 24 hour races. In 2013 Debbie was the overall winner, men and women, in the 145 mile Grand Union Canal Race. Also in 2013 Debbie placed 2nd in the Montane Lakeland 100 race. A year later she went one better by winning the 2014 Lakeland 100, and followed up in 2015 by placing 2nd in the shorter, though perhaps harder, Montane Lakeland 50. Debbie is also the current Scottish record holder for 100 miles, and 12 hour events.

Debbie also met her husband through their local running club in Glasgow, and despite all the miles, she also works full time as the Marketing Manager for the Scottish Daily Mail.

“I’m Scottish, but the Lake District is a home-from-home for me.  It’s trail and hill running heaven, so I try to visit as often as possible.  I love it when I turn off the motorway and beautiful Blencathra comes into view.  It’s always a good gauge of what the conditions are going to be like that day.  I’ve yet to turn around a drive home though.”

We'd love to hear your stories too!
