Petzl ACTIK CORE head torch

This is a really well thought out piece of kit: high lumen output, comfort, and simple one-touch button operation. At the highest 350-lumen setting the rechargeable battery provides plenty of light for up to two hours, much longer on the lower settings, and can take AAA batteries for backup. Unlike my Petzl REACTIK, the ACTIK CORE doesn’t have the reactive technology that’s so useful when map reading in the dark, or other close-up activities. However, for trail running over familiar routes, the bright, low-weight ACTIK CORE is now an essential piece of kit.

Salomon Speedcross shoes

Very comfortable and used for just about everything, except when I’m on the rugby field playing for Keswick. I really like the good grippy soles, the fact they are so durable and that they allow me to have my own custom Superfeet insoles. I’ve had them for six months and run trails in them, wear them for work and have been really impressed with how well they have lasted.

Arc’teryx Rho LT LS base layer

So good I’ve got two of them, one in dark purple and one in blue. I’ve have had them for two years now and the fact that they feel so cosy straight away and I can wear anywhere, even in the house, has made them one of my favourite pieces of clothing. I’ve used them walking on the fell, skiing and find that they wash really well and still look new. They have a zip neck so can be worn on warmer and colder days. Worn next to skin they keep me lovely and warm and they fit really well with the body and arm length being perfect.

Arc’teryx Norvan GTX C-Knit Jacket

Bought in October last year, I’ve had this for four months and used it for running and walking in all weathers. I needed a more robust waterproof jacket and this has proved itself already, keeping me dry and comfortable out on fell runs. It fits really well, there is only one internal pocket, and it’s light, neat and has elasticated cuffs so it packs down really small. The hood has no adjustments so I just put my head torch over the top if I’m out in bad weather with the hood up.
