Navigation and mountain safety. A closer look.

Written by George Fisher

Here at George Fisher we are built upon the idea of safety in the mountains. In 1947 the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was formed, and over the years George as Team Leader was involved in hundreds of rescues. In 1980 he was honoured with an M.B.E. for services to mountain rescue. Prior to 1947, rescues were undertaken by the police, not all of who had the necessary experience or equipment to do the job. George always felt most strongly that everybody who ventured out onto the fells should be properly equipped!

Today we have George Fisher staff member Paul who runs our navigation and mountain safety courses. Paul grew up not too far from Keswick and started hill walking at five or six years old. With the mountains Capturing his imagination, Paul has never stopped mountaineering and travelling since. These days, apart from getting out and about on the fells generally, he is steadily notching up callouts with Keswick Mountain Rescue Team as well as leading walks in the UK and abroad for HF Holidays.

Paul has spent time travelling and exploring mountains all over the world. It's a real passion for Paul and this comes across on his courses. We caught up with Paul to see what you can expect from coming along...
