Garmin has just launched the latest version of its ever-popular Oregon handheld GPS series, with the new Oregon 700 and 750 units packed with extra features.

The units now feature Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, so you can connect a new Oregon to your ‘phone or WiFi hotspot and activate its new features including Weather Radar, Geocaching Live, Smart Notifications, Live Track and more. Let’s take a look at those features in detail:

Weather Radar: If you have your Oregon connected to your ‘phone via Bluetooth, throughout the day you can receive weather updates which will show on the map screen as a weather radar overlay. This allows you to view when weather fronts are moving through the area.

Geocache Live: No need to load tons of geocaches onto your unit before you head out, on the off chance you might go Geocaching. Connected via Bluetooth or on a WiFi hotspot, you can search Geocaching.com and local geocaches are instantly displayed on your map and geocache list. Your finds are sent straight to Geocaching.com so you don’t need to mark them as ‘found’ manually.

Smart Notification and Live Track: With Bluetooth you can now get notifications straight onto your Oregon. Keep your smartphone tucked away safely in its waterproof case in your rucksack, and let the Oregon handle the bad weather. Rated IPX7 waterproof, the Oregon is designed for anything the UK weather can throw at it. When connected you can also send out a Live Track link to friends and family and they can follow you on their desktop, tablet or smartphone.

Activity Profiles: The Oregon is perfect for a multitude of sports/activities. To make it simpler to take an Oregon on your next adventure, Garmin have added in Activity Profiles. When you switch an Oregon on, it asks for your activity and the settings change automatically to make it quick, simple and more intuitive.

The Oregon 700 and 750 still feature a bright 3-inch sunlight readable screen with dual orientation. It is built as ruggedly as ever, meaning it can handle whatever the elements can throw at it. Available including Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 mapping for Great Britain, ready to go out of the box.
