Patagonia is a company renowned for its strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility. As company founder and owner Yvon Chouinard said recently, “I never even wanted to be in business. But I hang onto Patagonia because it’s my resource to do something good. It’s a way to demonstrate that corporations can lead examined lives.
”Walking the talk, much of Patagonia’s product range uses recycled or recyclable materials. A good example is the new Calcite Jacket which is made out of recycled material; Patagonia re-uses scraps from the floors of fabric mills to build the material used in the garment. It’s a rainwear garment, in other words it’s built to cope with anything from summertime thunderstorms through to spring snowfall, on alpine rock or felltop hikes, with its light, durable and stormproof features.
The 2.5-layer waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX Paclite Plus fabric has a 100% recycled polyester face, and a special textured backer for next-to-skin comfort. The hood is helmet compatible, with a laminated visor and an easily adjustable single pull. Water-repellent zips help the ventilation, and three secure pockets (exterior left chest and two handwarmers) hold your valuables. It’s lightweight and very packable for when you want everything to fit into a small daypack.
